`RRR': Cinema ticket prices increase by over 100% across Telangana

Special show tickets are priced at Rs 800 -1000. However, in the black market, the tickets are being sold as high as Rs 30,000

`RRR: Cinema ticket prices increase by  over 100% across Telangana

Ticket prices have skyrocketed after the Telangana government permitted cinema theatres to revise rates for Rajamouli's Roudram Ranam Rudiram (RRR). PVR theatres and Prasad's large screen have raised the ticket price to Rs 413, which is more than double. Tickets in other premium theatres including Platinum Movietime, Gachibowli, and AMB Cinemas are priced at Rs 500 each.

As per the government order, Recliner Seats in Single theatres, IMAX/Large Screens (75 ft and above), Multiplexes can charge Rs 100 extra for the first three days (March 25-27) and charge Rs 50 extra for the following three days from March 28- April 3. Air-conditioned or Air-cooled theatres have been permitted to increase the ticket rate by Rs 50 for the first three days- from March 25- 27. For other theatres such as Non-AC theatres, there is no change in the admission rates.

On the other hand, five theatres in Hyderabad have been permitted screening special showing of RRR between 7 am to 1.00 am for ten days from March 25 to April 3. The theatres where special shows will be screened include Bramaramba, Mallikarjuna, Vishwanatha, Arjun, and Sri Ramulu.The permission has been granted subject to payment of tax to the government on usual terms and conditions.

Special show tickets are priced at Rs 800 -1000. However, in the black market, the tickets are being sold as high as Rs 30,000. Despite the sharp hike, all theaters are sold out for the first 5 days. Tickets in all premium theatres were sold out in minutes online.

RRR received a warm welcome from everyone, including the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) authorities. TSRTC MD Sajjanar has arranged special buses for the RRR team to see the movie on Thursday.

RRR is a fictional story inspired by Telugu Freedom Fighter Alluri Seetharamaraju. The movie stars Jr NTR, Ram Charan Tej, Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgan amongst others.

The movie finally released on March 25 after being postponed multiple times owing to the pandemic and the omicron variant.
