Rushikonda welcomes upgraded Haritha Resorts, hints at place for Jagans camp office

Visakhapatnam: Haritha Resorts in Rushikonda which has been redeveloped as a world-class tourism resort was inaugurated by IT minister Gudivada Amarnath and tourism minister Roja in Visakhapatnam.

On Thursday, seven blocks in the resort were inaugurated in Rushikonda. These will be utilised for accommodating more tourists. Based on chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s decision, buildings will be transformed into the CM camp office.

The resort has seven blocks, as Vengi-A, Vengi-B, Kalinga, Gajapathi and Vijayanagara A, B and C.

The facilities provided in these 7 blocks are Reception, Restaurants, Banquet Halls, Guest rooms, Premium Villa Suites, Spa, Indoor Games, Fitness center, Back office and Service areas.

Will the building also house AP CM’s camp office?

The resort was built under the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation’s Rushikonda Redevelopment Project at the cost of Rs 400 crores.

A resort run by the APTDC was demolished in February 2022 and the State government has planned to construct a 5-storeyed hotel cum resort. While new buildings are being constructed on Rushikonda Hill, some of the buildings were planned to be allocated for the state government offices, including the CM’s office.

Andhra Pradesh government in October 2024 appointed a committee of senior officials to identify suitable transit accommodation to establish a camp office for the chief minister and accommodation for supporting senior functionaries at Visakhapatnam.

Opportunities for Vizag

After inspecting, the committee submitted a detailed report to the general administration department on the facilities being readied for the chief minister’s camp office in Visakhapatnam.

“For now, the inaugurated buildings will be used for resorts. The three-member committee report has suggested Rushikonda as a suitable place for the CM camp office. Now it is Jagan Mohan Reddy’s decision,” said minister Roja.

Earlier, on January 31, 2023, CM Jagan announced that Visakhapatnam will be the new capital of Andhra Pradesh and he will also shift to the city. Even during the Global Investors Summit 2023, Jagan Mohan Reddy said Visakhapatnam, which will be the Executive Capital, will help in the Ease of Doing Business. He invited the delegates to visit Vizag and see the investment opportunities.

Tale of three capitals

Since last year, Jagan has been planning to shift to Visakhapatnam and set up a camp office in the city. However, plans have been postponed.

It has been decided to shift the administration from Vijayawada to Visakhapatnam and begin governance from the port city of Vijaya Dasami. However, there has been no development made further.
