Hyderabad: Actor Sai Dharam Tej was overspeeding and driving beyond the permissible speed on the night of the accident that left the actor injured, the Cyberabad police revealed on Sunday. He was driving at a speed of 75 kmph on a road where the speed limit is 30 to 40 kmph.

Sai Dharam Tej was severely injured in a motorbike accident on the night of 10 September. He is currently undergoing treatment at a city hospital where his condition is said to be stable. On Saturday, the Raidurgam police had booked the actor for rash driving and negligence.

Now, the police have discovered that the actor had purchased the second-hand motorbike from Bura Anil Kumar of LB Nagar but the vehicle has not yet been registered in the actor's name. The cops are inspecting the condition of the motorbike.

On 2 August, an e-challan for a fine of Rs. 1,135 was issued against the motorbike at Parwath Nagar, Madhapur, for overspeeding at 87 kmph on a road with a permissible maximum speed limit of 40 kmph. The challan was paid on Sunday by some unknown person.

Based on CCTV footage, the police have verified that the actor was overspeeding on the night of the accident and the speed was well over 100 kmph on the Durgam Cheruvu bridge. The footage also shows the actor recklessly overtaking other vehicles, the police said.

The cops also found that Sai Dharma Tej has a valid driving license only to drive light motor vehicles. They are verifying if he has a license to drive a motorbike with gears on public roads.

On Saturday, the doctors treating the injured actor said his condition was stable and his brain scan was normal. They said he will continue to be on assisted respiration in the ICU for closed monitoring. Sai Dharam Tej is the nephew of Mega Star Chiranjeevi.
