Sai Surya Developers fraud case: Ranga Reddy consumer panel issues notice to actor Mahesh Babu

Hyderabad: Troubles are mounting for Tollywood actor Mahesh Babu after Ranga Reddy District Consumer Commission issued a notice to him in real estate fraud case.

The actor has been named as the third respondent for acting as a brand ambassador of the real estate company involved.

Doctor, another buyer filed a complaint

A Hyderabad-based doctor and another individual filed a complaint against ā€˜Messrs Sai Surya Developers’ stating that they paid Rs. 34.80 lakh each to purchase plots in a venture developed by the company at Balapur village.

Buyers claim they were influenced by Mahesh Babu’s endorsement

The complainants alleged that they trusted the company’s promises after seeing Mahesh Babu endorse the project in brochures, which highlighted attractive offers and assured that all necessary approvals were in place. Believing these claims, they invested their money.

No layout, partial refund

However, they later discovered that there was no approved layout at the site and realized they had been cheated. When they approached the company’s owner, Kancherla Satish Chandragupta, he refunded only Rs. 15 lakh in installments with great difficulty.

Commission summons Mahesh Babu, company and owner

After repeated requests for the remaining amount went unanswered, the victims approached the Consumer Commission, naming the company, its owner, and Mahesh Babu as respondents.

Taking cognizance of the complaint, the Commission issued notices to all three, directing them to appear for a hearing on Monday.

ED summons Mahesh Babu

In April, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) issued a notice to the actor, directing him to appear for questioning in a money laundering case linked to realty firms Surana Group and Sai Surya Developers. However, he has reportedly written to the ED that he was unable to appear due to his schedule and requested a new date. So far, the actor has not appeared before the central agency.
