Second case of Omicron in AP: 39YO woman from Kenya tests positive

According to the Director of Public Health, the woman reached Tirupati by car. She was given the Covid test on reaching Tirupati and was declared Covid-19 positive on 12 December.

Second case of Omicron in AP: 39YO woman from Kenya tests positive

Another Omicron case has been reported in Andhra Pradesh, with a 39-year-old foreign traveller who came from Kenya to Chennai Airport on 10 December. This is the second case of Omicron reported in Andhra Pradesh.

According to the Dr. Hymavathi, Director of Public Health, the woman reached Tirupati by car. She was given the Covid test on reaching Tirupati and was declared Covid-19 positive on 12 December.

The health officials had sent the sample to the Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad for Genome Sequencing, and the result was declared as Omicron positive on 22 December. The woman is currently at institutional quarantine and under close observation by the Health Department.

Six of her family members who were in contact with her tested negative.

According to the health officials, so far 45 foreign travellers who visited Andhra Pradesh and 9 contacts were tested Covid-19 positive and all the samples were sent to CCMB for Genome sequencing.

The health officials advised the public not to worry and believe any rumours but continue to take precautions and follow social distancing, wearing of a mask, washing hands regularly.
