Hyderabad: Panic gripped Afzalgunj on Thursday night when two robbers shot at and injured a helper of a travel agency. One of the busiest places in Hyderabad, Afzalgunj came to a standstill after the incident.

What happened at Afzal Gunj?

Two people came to book bus tickets for Raipur. The bus was scheduled to leave at 6:30 PM. So they left and returned to the travel office between 6:30 and 6:45 pm. Typically, passengers are transported to Bowenpally by a minibus. Then they board the main bus.

Following this routine, the travel office manager, Jahangir, and his assistant escorted them to the minibus. Both accused were seated in the front seats of the minibus, carrying a bag.

Later, Jahangir checked tickets and luggage at the back of the bus. He questioned a passenger seated in the rear. He said he was from Bidar police and going for some work. All this was observed by two accused who were seated in the front.

When Jahangir sought to check their bags, the suspects became jittery. One of them pulled out a bundle of Rs. 500 notes, attempting to dissuade further questioning. Their behavior aroused Jahangir's suspicion, and he insisted on inspecting the luggage.

At this point, one of the suspects took out a revolver and fired two rounds, injuring Jahangir in the stomach, thigh, and abdomen. The robbers fled with the cash bag toward the Osmania Hospital. Jahangir managed to reach the travel office and inform his colleagues before collapsing. He was rushed to a hospital in Mughalpura, where he is undergoing treatment.

The first incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday in Bidar city, where two security personnel were refilling an ATM near the SBI main branch at Shivaji Junction. The assailants, who had been watching the ATM, approached on a two-wheeler. They attacked the guards, spraying chili powder into their eyes before opening fire.

The guards were identified as Giri Venkatesh (45) and Shiva Kashinath (35). Venkatesh succumbed to bullet injuries on the spot, while Kashinath was critically injured and rushed to the hospital. The robbers fled with the cash box containing Rs. 93 lakh, though their two-wheeler fell during the escape. They managed to recover it and continue their getaway.
