Sigachi Pharma blast: Company says 40 lives lost, explosion not caused by reactor

Hyderabad: In a tragic industrial disaster, Sigachi Industries confirmed that Monday’s blast at its Pashamylaram facility in Telangana claimed 40 lives and left 33 others injured.

This is the company’s first official statement since the explosion rocked its plant in the Sangareddy district near Hyderabad.

“It is with anguish that we share details of the accident that occurred at the Sigachi Industries facility in Pashamylaram, Telangana, resulting in the loss of 40 valued team members and leaving over 33 injured,” the statement read.

Compensation announced for victims’ families

Sigachi Industries has announced an ex gratia of Rs 1 crore to the families of the deceased. The injured workers will receive full medical treatment and rehabilitation support.

“Our thoughts are with those affected by this tragic accident. Since the time of the accident, we have been coordinating emergency response, family support and extending cooperation with the investigation and compliance efforts,” the company added.

Blast not caused by reactor explosion, says Sigachi

The company clarified that preliminary findings indicate the blast was not caused by a reactor explosion, contrary to some media reports.

“As we await the results of the investigation, we would like to clarify that the accident was not caused by a reactor explosion at the plant. We will continue to send updates as we receive information from the investigations,” it said.

Plant operations suspended for 90 days

Sigachi Industries announced that operations at the Pashamylaram facility will remain suspended for approximately 90 days as a precautionary and compliance measure.

Rescue operations continue; 11 still missing

Meanwhile, Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha visited the accident site on Wednesday, where rescue teams continued clearing debris for the third day.

He stated that the condition of the injured undergoing treatment at various hospitals is stable. However, 11 people remain missing, and search operations are underway.

Political leaders visit accident site, meet injured

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud and AICC in-charge for Telangana Meenakshi Natarajan also visited the site and called on the injured at local hospitals to assess their condition and offer support.
