Sivalinga Ganesh, 1 Lakh Sarees Ganesh emerge as major attractions this Ganesh Chaturthi

Andhra/Hyderabad: The much-awaited day has arrived for youngsters and children eager to see which Ganesh idol will stand tallest for this year’s festival across the Telugu States.

1 lakh Sarees Ganesh

Gajuwaka in Andhra Pradesh, known for its grand ‘Bada Ganesh’ since 2012, once again takes the spotlight. The organisers have installed a majestic 111-foot idol made with one lakh sarees, aptly named Sundara Vastra Maha Ganapati.

A team of 26 artisans from Chirala began work two months ago to craft the idol. Sarees sourced from Surat, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu have been used in their making.

In a gesture of devotion, the sarees will be distributed to devotees on the day of Nimmajanam (immersion).

Another colossal attraction in Gajuwaka is the 100-foot Ganesh idol made with one crore Siva Lingas, with the aim of setting a world record. At the time of immersion, each devotee will receive one Siva Linga, symbolising blessings for every household.

Another tall Ganesh idol is set up at Anakapalli at a height of 122 ft, known as Lakshmi Ganapati.

Another unique Ganesh idol this year is a pure silver Ganesh setup at Vizag beach road.

71st Year of Khairatabad Ganesh

Hyderabad’s iconic Khairatabad Ganesh, known for being among the tallest idols in the country, is being crafted at 69 feet this year, marking the 71st anniversary of the festival here.

For 2025, the Vishwashanti Mahashakti Ganapati takes the divine form of Shantamurthy, flanked by deities that embody cosmic harmony—Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara.

To the left, devotees will find Lord Jagannath of Puri with Subhadra and Balaram, while to the right stand Goddess Lakshmi with Lord Hayagriva. The mandap also includes Goddess Kanyaka Parameshwari on one side and Gajjelamma on the other.

Chief architect Chinnaswamy Rajendran, who has designed the idol every year since 1978, developed the theme in consultation with astrologers.

The Maha Ganapati Nimajjanam will be held on September 6, concluding the 11-day festivities, with the Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Committee hosting various cultural and devotional events.

Tallest Clay Ganesh in Guntur

In Guntur, a 99-foot Matti Ganapathi idol has been unveiled, acclaimed as one of the tallest eco-friendly Ganesh idols in South India.

Entirely crafted from sacred clay brought from the banks of the Ganga in Uttar Pradesh, the idol stands as a symbol of purity, devotion and environmental responsibility.

Over 120 artisans from Hyderabad and Bangalore worked tirelessly for 21 days to complete the massive structure. The 21-day festivities feature daily Lakshmi Ganapathi Homams at the Yagasala.

On August 27, the Sree Raja Shyamala Homam will see participation from 2,116 families. Adding to the grandeur will be a flower shower from helicopters, fire engine salutes, and rituals using sacred waters from 12 holy rivers, including the Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Kaveri and Brahmaputra.
