Six passengers charred to death after bus catches fire in Palnadu

Bapatla: Six persons were charred to death and 20 others were injured when a private bus in which they were traveling, caught fire after being hit by a tipper near Chilakaluripet in Palnadu district.

The mishap occurred at around 1.30 am on Wednesday. Around 40 passengers were traveling to Hyderabad from Bapatla with the majority of them returning after casting their vote in the Andhra Pradesh polls.

Of the total passengers aboard the bus, it is reported that the tipper driver, the travel bus driver, and four passengers perished in the accident.




"We got the information through some people about the incident. We have alerted ambulances and fire tenders. When we reached the spot, the bus was engulfed in flames. We understand that six people died," a police official told TV channels, adding drivers of both vehicles died.

The official further said the injured were admitted to a hospital.

Governor of Andhra Pradesh S Abdul Nazeer has expressed profound grief and anguish over the road accident. He offered his condolences to the bereaved family members and instructed the officials to provide better medical facilities to the injured persons.
