Hyderabad: Bringing an end to the heatwave distress across Telangana, southwest monsoon is expected to begin on 10 June in the state, said the IMD Hyderabad on Monday. In the neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh, the rainy season is expected to start a little early, on 5 June.

The weather experts are also predicting the arrival of monsoons in different states. T Balaji popular as Telangana Weatherman in his unofficial monsoon forecast on Twitter predicted the southwest monsoon to arrive on 31 May in Telangana and 27 May in AP.

According To IMD, the normal onset date for the monsoon in Telangana is 12 June. In 2021, the rains came on 5 June in Telangana, nearly a week ahead.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Andaman and Nicobar Islands received the first of the year's monsoon showers.

Predictions say early monsoons this year

Earlier on 13 May, IMD had forecasted that this year the onset of the southwest monsoon is likely to be earlier than the normal date of onset. It had said that the monsoons will set in over South Andaman Sea and adjoining Bay of Bengal on May 15 and in Kerala on May 27, with a model error of four days on either side. Under normal circumstances, the southwest monsoon arrives in Kerala on June 1 and the monsoon arrives in Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh on June 4 or June 5. In 2021, the Southwest Monsoon covered the entire Andhra Pradesh on June 10, five days after it arrived over the Rayalaseema region of the state.

The weathermen say that the cyclone Asani which impacted parts of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal with rains and winds has helped in pulling the monsoon currents into the Bay of Bengal little early.

In association with the enhanced cross-equatorial winds, conditions are becoming favourable for the advance of the southwest monsoon into the South Andaman Sea, Nicobar Islands and parts of the southeast Bay of Bengal around May 15, the IMD said. The normal date for the arrival of southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea is May 21.
