Amaravati: India is witnessing an unusually early onset of the southwest monsoon in 2025, with Kerala experiencing its earliest monsoon arrival in 16 years. On May 26, Monday, the Southwest Monsoon made an onset in Andhra Pradesh, a week ahead of the usual time recorded in 2024.

On Monday, Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, some more parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai, Karnataka including Bengaluru, remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, some parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, some more parts of West Central and North Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of Mizoram, entire Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, some parts of Assam and Meghalaya.

ā€œThe upper air trough now runs from cyclonic circulation associated with the above low-pressure area over Marathwada and neighbourhood to north coastal Andhra Pradesh across north Telangana, south Chhattisgarh and south Odisha between 3.1 and 5.8 km above mean sea level, tilting southwards with height. A low-pressure area is likely to form over West Central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal around May 27,ā€ said the IMD.

Date of onset and date of withdrawal in Andhra:

2025: May 26.
