Srikakulam tragedy: Konark Express runs over five passengers at Sigadam section

The incident occurred when the passengers were crossing the track. One of the deceased hails from Assam, while others are yet to be identified.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Train no 1251, Coimbatore-Silcher Express halted between Cheepurapalli- G Sigdam section due to a technical issue. Few passengers got down and were trying to cross the track. Konark express which was on its way from Bhubaneswar to Visakhapatnam hit them causing casualties.
Railway Officials said there was no technical glitch, but some of the passengers pulled the chain. Feeling exhausted, a few of them got down but were hit by another train passing by.
The bodies were carried to Srikakulam station. Later, an ambulance was arranged to shift the bodies to the government hospital.
Srikakulam Collector, District Medical and Health Officer, and Srikakulam Railway Police reached the spot. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has expressed grief over the incident and asked the health officials to provide necessary treatment for the injured.
