Stray dogs kill 18-month-old girl in Srikakulam

Srikakulam: An 18-month-old girl died on Friday night after she was attacked by a pack of stray dogs while playing near her home at Mettavalasa village under G Sigadam Mandal in Srikakulam district.

The victim was identified as P. Satvika whose parents are daily wage labourers.

The locals said the incident took place on the outskirts of Mettavalasa village on Friday evening. Around 7 p.m., the girl was playing near her home when a pack of stray dogs attacked her. There were over 30 dog bite marks on her body, including on her face and neck.

The girl’s parents and family heard the girl crying for help and rushed to rescue her.

The parents shifted their daughter to Government Hospital at Rajam in Vizianagaram district where she died on Friday night while she was availing treatment.

The police said they are yet to receive any complaint in this regard but are aware of the incident.

The locals alleged that stray dogs have been attacking the people but officials are not taking any measures to control the dogs. Children and the elderly are the victims of the stray dog menace, they added.
