Sujana Chowdary's medical college in Telangana loses licence
National Medical Commission has also asked the management to stop the admissions for undergraduate courses for the academic year 2023-24
By Sri Lakshmi Muttevi Published on 31 May 2023 6:44 AM GMTHyderabad: National Medical Commission (NMC) has canceled the admissions to the ex-BJP MP Sujana Chowdary-owned MediCiti Institute of Medical Sciences in Ghanpur, Medchal mandal in Ranga Reddy district of Telangana.
NMC has also asked the management to stop the admissions for undergraduate courses for the academic year 2023-24.
For the past two months, around 40 medical colleges across the country have lost recognition allegedly for not following standards set by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
According to reports, Sujana Chowdary established the MediCiti Institute of Medical Sciences in 2002. Spread over 40 acres of land, it is affiliated with Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, Warangal.
As per the NCM website, the college is recognized for 100 seats. For an increase of seats from 100 to 150 when the degree is granted on or after February 2017. (Previously under NTR University of Health Sciences). Admission has been stopped u/s 26 of the NMC Act. 2019 for the Academic Year 2023- 2024.
As per inspections conducted by NMC under the supervision of Medical Council of India, found many violations in the private medical college. The management was acting against the rules.
Medical Council of India even served notice to the college management in this regard before eventually revoking its licence.
At present, 750 students are pursuing MBBS and 150 postgraduate courses. In addition to this, several out-patients throng the 13 departments of the hospital, associated with the college.
The 40 colleges which were derecognized were not found to be complying with the set norms, and several lapses related to CCTV cameras, Aadhaar-linked biometric attendance procedures, and faculty rolls were found during inspections carried out by the Commission, an official source said.
