Hyderabad: In a move to provide immediate relief to citizens facing scorching summer heat, the Central Government has announced the advance distribution of ration supplies, starting from today, April 1.
Now, beneficiaries can collect their total ration quota for April, May and June in a single visit, sparing them from making multiple trips to ration shops during the peak of the heatwave.
Why the decision?
With temperatures soaring across the country, the government said it has implemented this ‘one-time distribution’ policy to prevent citizens from having to stand in long queues under the harsh sun.
“Keeping in mind the severity of the heat, the government has decided to distribute the ration quota for April, May and June all at once so that people do not have to face the trouble of visiting ration shops repeatedly,” stated Union Minister G Kishan Reddy in an X post.
How much ration can you get?
The distribution covers both general beneficiaries and those under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY):
For General Beneficiaries: Each beneficiary will receive their monthly entitlement of 6 kg of rice, totalling 18 kg for the three months.
For Antyodaya Card Holders: Families under the Antyodaya scheme will receive 35 kg per month, totalling 105 kg of ration at once.
In addition to rice, all other essential commodities allocated for the 3 months are also available for collection starting today.
How to collect your ration?
1. Visit Your Local Fair Price Shop: Beneficiaries can visit their designated local ration shops to collect the full three-month quota starting today.
2. Recommended Timing: Due to the extreme weather conditions, authorities have strongly advised citizens to visit ration shops during the early morning or late evening hours to avoid the intense midday heat.
3. Documentation: Ensure you carry your active Ration Card and any linked identification, such as Aadhaar, to verify your details at the point of sale.
