Telangana, AP police bust terror plot; 2 held for planning blasts across States
Hyderabad: In a joint operation, the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh police thwarted a potential terror plot with the arrest of two individuals allegedly planning bomb blasts in both States.
The police recovered incriminating materials used for making explosives from the suspects. The accused have been identified as Siraj, a resident of Visakhapatnam, and Sameer from Bhoiguda, Hyderabad.
Accused instructed by handlers abroad
The duo arrests followed sustained surveillance based on intelligence inputs suggesting the duo was acting under the instructions of handlers based abroad.
Acting on the information, the Visakhapatnam police apprehended Siraj, who subsequently led authorities to a house where explosive materials were stored. During interrogation, Siraj revealed that he was working in coordination with Sameer, who was later picked up in Hyderabad.
Accused planned dummy explosions
According to investigators, the suspects had initially planned a dummy explosion to test the efficacy of their devices, followed by a series of targeted blasts across the two states.
The arrests have prompted heightened security and further investigation into any wider network or links to organised terror outfits.
