Telangana: BRS demands free LRS implementation, plans protests on March 7
Congress decision to collect fees for Layout Regularisation Scheme has upset BRS which earlier gave it for free
By Sistla Dakshina Murthy Published on 4 March 2024 9:46 AM GMTHyderabad: Opposition in the Telangana government Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is gearing up to voice its displeasure against the Congress government’s decision to collect Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) fee from the people.
As part of the protest, the BRS leaders and cadre will stage dharnas at all the district centres on March 6 and submit representations to the district collectors and RDOs on March 7 to provide LRS free of cost to the people.
Plan to improve infrastructure development
Almost a week ago, chief minister A Revanth Reddy directed officials to expedite the process of clearing applications filed under the LRS 2020 and extended the deadline for plot owners to pay the regularisation fees by March 31, 2024.
This decision is anticipated to support approved layouts that facilitate development through access to infrastructure development and legal recognition of their properties, as well as planned, sustainable development in the state’s rural and urban areas. The authorised plan will assist owners with obtaining bank loans, selling and buying land, and obtaining building permits for home development. Over Rs 1,000 crores is anticipated by the government.
KTR slams Congress for reversing decision
Speaking to the media at Telangana Bhavan here on Monday, BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) accused the Congress government of gearing up to impose a heavy financial burden on the people of the state. He recalled that the Congress had promised to deliver LRS to the public for free during the election campaign, but that it had changed its mind and chosen to charge people for LRS, which he described as really despicable.
KTR said that during the BRS regime, allegations were made about every topic by the Congress. The newly formed government is carrying out the plans of the previous administration and the LRS scheme is one instance of this, he said and added that earlier, the then MP and now minister for Roads Komatireddy Venkat Reddy filed a case against LRS in court.
“I expressed my solidarity with the court case by Komatireddy Venkat Reddy. Then we allowed them to regularise the land at nominal fees,” KTR said. He also recalled that Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, now the deputy chief minister, even promised to scrap the LRS fee and even asked the people not to pay the amount and his slogan ‘No LRS No BRS’. After coming to power, the Congress government has set a deadline for plot owners to pay the regularisation fees to March 31, 2024, he said.
KTR also alleged that the government had set a target to collect Rs 20,000 crores from the people through the LRS, which would burden more than 24 lakh people in the state. He demanded that the Congress government keep its promise of implementing LRS free of cost to the people.
