Telangana: CM Revanth launches Rs 500 gas cylinders, Gruha Jyoti schemes for needy

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy launched the Rs 500 per LPG cylinder initiative under the Mahalakshmi scheme and 200 units of free power supply to eligible beneficiaries in the state under Gruha Jyoti scheme at Dr BR Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat, Hyderabad, on Tuesday.

Addressing the gathering, Revanth Reddy said that the State government identified eligible beneficiaries for the Rs 500 LPG cylinder and free power supply schemes by organising gram sabhas in the name of Praja Palana.

“Initially, we had planned to launch the two schemes on a large scale by Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi in Chevella. However, due to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) coming into force for the local bodies in Mahabubnagar district, the scheme’s launch venue was shifted to the Telangana Secretariat,” he said.

‘NDA increased UPA’s gas prices’

Revanth Reddy said that, after observing the plight of women due to the traditional way of cooking with wooden sticks, Sonia Gandhi had introduced the ‘Deepam’ scheme for poor women to supply pure cooking fuel and gas stoves during the UPA regime at the Centre.

At that time, the LPG cylinder was supplied for Rs 400 for women. But the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre took the LPG cylinder price up to Rs 1,200. In the last decade of rule in the state, former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao never thought of bringing down the prices through subsidy and even considered it as a revenue source, he criticised.

The chief minister said that as part of the six guarantees promised by the Congress, the government, despite facing a financial crisis, implemented two more promises to eligible beneficiaries in Telangana.

Financial discipline needed

“My government is committed to the welfare of the poor and is following a financial discipline to implement the six guarantees made during the polls. People are not in a position to believe the malicious propaganda being made by KCR and his family members. At any cost, the Congress government will honour all the promises made to the people and will deliver the Telangana model to the country,” he said.

Later, Revanth Reddy along with deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and other Cabinet colleagues handed over Rs 500 LPG cylinders to the beneficiaries and a zero bill of up to 200 free power supply to five beneficiaries each. The chief minister along with his Cabinet colleagues and MLAs proceeded to Chevella to address a public meeting.
