Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar suspended for meeting Revanth before declaration of poll results
Anjani Kumar and CID Chief Mahesh Bhagwat went to Revanth's residence to congratulate him
By Newsmeter Network Published on 3 Dec 2023 12:12 PM GMTHyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar IPS has been suspended by the Election Commission (EC) for violating the election code in place in Telangana.
The EC was reacting to the move of senior IPS officer Anjani Kumar meeting TPCC president A Revanth Reddy at his residence while the counting was on. At around 12.15 PM on December 3rd, while the counting was on, the DGP accompanied by CID Chief and IPS officer Mahesh Bhagwat visited the residence of Revanth Reddy. This was while the counting was underway. The EC has dashed a letter to the Chief Secretary IAS Shanthi Kumari and once the CS issues suspension orders, it will come into effect. The EC has also asked Mahesh Bhagwat to give a written explanation.
The office of the DGP also put out several instructions based on his conversation with Revanth Reddy about the arrangements for the swearing-in ceremony.
The DGP opting to meet a contesting candidate out of the total of 2,290 and the star campaigner of one political party out of 16 political parties in the fray was a clear indication of mala fide intention of seeking favour, sources said.
Reacting to these activities even before the EC declared the results in Telangana, the top cop has been suspended.
More details awaited.
