Hyderabad: On the last two days of 2022, liquor sales in Telangana touched a whopping Rs. 410 crores. On 30 December, the state recorded liquor sales worth Rs. 250 crores, and on 31 December, Rs. 160 crores. The figures are only for the wholesale market and not retail. Since 1 January fell on a Sunday, the wholesale market was closed and the figures are unavailable, said a senior officer working in the Telangana Excise department.
Drunk driving cases
On the night of 31 December, 5,819 driving licenses were suspended in Hyderabad city. Hyderabad joint transport commissioner Panduranga Naik said those licenses were canceled for drunken driving and accidents. In a statement, he revealed that this is 3,220 more than in 2021.
He said of the five zones in the city (East, West, North, South and Central zones), licenses were heavily canceled in all the zones except the East zone. In the North zone, 1,103 licenses were cancelled, in the South zone 1,151, East zone 510, and in the West zone 1,345 licenses were cancelled.
