Four out of the 115 MLA candidates in the BRS first list hold MBBS degrees in various specialisations.

Telangana Elections: 4 MLA aspirants on BRS first list are doctors

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party’s first list of candidates for the upcoming Telangana State Assembly elections has been released. It is interesting to know that it has MLA candidates from the medical profession.

Four out of the 115 MLA candidates in the BRS first list hold MBBS degrees in various specialisations.

The list has:

Dr M Sanjay Kumar, MS Ophthalmology from Jagtial

Dr Methuku Anand, MBBS from Vikarabad

Dr Tellam Venkata Rao, MBBS from Bhadrachalam

Dr Kalavakuntla Sanjay, Spine Surgeon from Korutla

Korutla

Dr Kalvakuntla Sanjay, a spine surgeon by profession contesting from the Korutla constituency. He was allotted the ticket in place of his father, Korutla MLA Kalvakuntla Vidyasagar Rao. The four-time MLA, who has now retired, requested BRS party supremo K Chandrashekar Rao to give a chance to his son for the upcoming elections.

Dr Sanjay, who did his MS (Ortho), Fellow in Spinal Deformities, and Fellow in Spine Surgery, started practice in 2008. Having been in the field for about 30 years, the 46-year-old has been a part of many developmental activities for the Korutla constituency for nine years.

Since 2014, Sanjay started conducting medical camps, free surgeries, and many activities like building schools in the Korutla constituency.

Jagtial

Dr M Sanjay Kumar, who pursued MS in Ophthalmology, will be contesting from the Jagtial constituency.

Born in Anthargam village of Jagtial, Dr Sanjay Kumar completed his MBBS from Siddartha Medical College, Vijayawada, from Nagarjuna University in 1989 and completed his Post Graduate MS (Ophthalmology) at JJM Medical College, Karnataka in 1992. He has been a medical practitioner for a few years.

Sanjay Kumar started his political journey with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party, now BRS, in 2014 when he contested as MLA. He lost to Jeevan Reddy then but, in 2018, he was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Jagtial from the BRS.

Vikarabad

Dr Methuku Anand is the incumbent BRS MLA in Vikarabad.

He was born in 1974 in Vikarabad district. Anand did his MBBS from Gandhi Medical College, and Post Graduation in Masters of Surgery from Kakatiya Medical College under NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada. He took up medical practice for sometime. He was also President of Doctors Association for a while.

Anand started his political journey with the BRS and was in-charge of BRS Vikarabad constituency from 2013-14. In 2018, he was elected the MLA of Vikarabad constituency.

Bhadrachalam

Dr Tellam Venkata Rao will be contesting from the Bhadrachalam constituency. He did his MBBS from Siddhartha Medical College in Vijayawada in 1998 and Masters in Surgery from SVS Medical College, Mahaboobnagar, in 2011.

Venkat Rao had contested on a BRS ticket from the Bhadrachalam constituency in the 2018 general elections and lost to Congress’ Podem Veeraiah. Before joining BRS in 2014, he contested from Mahabubabad (ST) Parliament seat in 2014 on a YSRCP ticket and lost.

He joined the Congress in the presence of Rahul Gandhi in Khammam this July. But due to ideological differences, he returned to BRS. He was a follower of former MP and Congress campaign committee co-chairman Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy when they both were in YSRCP.

Earlier, Venkat Rao released a video message stating that the majority of his followers have been asking him to go back to BRS for the development of the Bhadrachalam constituency.
