Telangana Elections: BRS begins appeasement? 39 out of 115 MLA candidates from Reddy community
The number of Reddy’s who are going to contest this election is being looked upon as an appeasement factor.
By Kaniza Garari Published on 21 Aug 2023 10:43 AM GMTHyderabad: The BRS announced its first list of MLA aspirants for the upcoming 2023 Telangana State Assembly elections, on Monday. Of the 115 Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) candidates, 39 are from the Reddy community.
The number of Reddy community members on the list is being looked upon as an appeasement factor.
Political analyst (on condition of anonymity) explained, “The reason to give tickets to Reddy candidates is also an appeasement of this section of the society which comprises a large section of influencers. KCR would not want Reddy's voting against him (especially in favour of Congress). KCR would like the Reddy community to get consolidated in favour of the BRS party. For this reason, CM KCR is keen that they are on his side during these elections.”
The Reddy community is a dominant factor and their members play a major role in the political landscape. While all Reddys are not affluent, their influence in consolidating the votes and coming together as one chunk of voters has a huge impact. They are dominant in various government sectors and also play a huge role in the education and information technology sector in Telangana.
Another political analyst explained, “Dalit Bandhu scheme is not appreciated by many members of the Reddy community. They are feeling left out in the economic system. Due to this reason, they could tilt towards the Congress party and that would be a problem for BRS. To not let this happen, there is a lot of stress being given to them now.”
