Telangana ex-chief secretary Somesh Kumar takes charge as chief advisor to CM

Hyderabad: In a formal ceremony held on Friday, former Telangana chief secretary Somesh Kumar assumed office as the chief advisor to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. The event took place on the sixth floor of the new Secretariat building, where priests performed a puja in the chambers of the newly-appointed chief advisor.

After the puja, officials, and staff members of the Secretariat extended their greetings to Mr. Kumar on assuming his new role. Speaking on the occasion, the chief advisor expressed his gratitude to the chief minister for once again bestowing faith in him and providing him with the opportunity to serve the state.

Mr. Kumar is a seasoned bureaucrat with decades of experience in various positions in the government. Prior to his appointment as the chief advisor, he served as the principal secretary to the Chief Minister.

From chief secretary to chief advisor: A timeline of events

1989: Somesh Kumar joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).

2014: He was allocated to the Andhra Pradesh cadre by the DoPT.

2016: He got a stay from Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Telangana High Court quashed the order.

2019: He was appointed as the chief secretary of Telangana.

January 2023: The High Court reallocated him to the Andhra Pradesh cadre.

February 2023: He took voluntary retirement from service.

April 2023: He was spotted alongside Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at a BRS rally in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.

May 2023: KCR appoints him as his chief advisor in the rank of Cabinet minister for three years.
