Hyderabad: Telangana Excise Department has earned a revenue of Rs 36.68 crore through the allotment of 28 new bar licenses across the state.
Beneficiaries were selected on Friday through a computerized lottery system, held peacefully at Narsingi, under the supervision of Prohibition and Excise Commissioner C Hari Kiran.
Massive response from GHMC and beyond
Of the 28 new bars, 24 are located within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, drawing 3,520 applications. The remaining four bars in other districts attracted 148 applications, bringing the total number of applications to 3,668.
Ranga Reddy district tops application count
Ranga Reddy district recorded the highest number of applications among all districts. A single bar licence in Saroornagar, located within this district, attracted as many as 57 applications.
In comparison, a bar in Mahbubnagar saw 49 applications, while in Nizamabad, 27 applications were submitted for a single bar location and another 15 applications for a bar in Bodhan, also in Nizamabad district.
Majority of winners from Hyderabad and Nalgonda
Officials noted that most of the selected applicants were from the Hyderabad and Nalgonda districts. Some aspirants who applied for more than one bar managed to secure only a single license. Remarkably, one applicant submitted 148 applications but received just one allotment.
Fair and transparent selection process
The Excise Department emphasized that the entire selection process was conducted transparently and digitally, with thorough scrutiny of each application before the final draw. The list of successful applicants is expected to be published soon.
This enthusiastic response, especially from districts like Rangareddy, Mahbubnagar, and Nizamabad, highlights the growing business interest in Telanganaās bar and hospitality sector, alongside the state's success in streamlining licensing processes for maximum transparency and revenue efficiency, the officials said.
