Telangana floods: 1,023 km roads damaged, crops over 2.36L acres wiped out
Hyderabad: Heavy rains and floods in Telangana have left a trail of destruction, damaging 1,023 km of roads and wiping out crops over 2.36 lakh acres in 82 mandals.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to accelerate restoration works and submit detailed damage reports to the Centre.
Roads, water bodies, and power infrastructure hit
Officials told the Chief Minister that 257 streams and ponds were breached, while several public buildings and an electric substation were submerged.
Revanth Reddy asked departments to restore damaged water bodies by tapping funds under the RRR scheme, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sanchai Yojana, and other central schemes.
Crop loss across 82 Mandals
The Agriculture Department reported that crops were devastated in 2.36 lakh acres spread over 82 mandals. The chief minister instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive assessment within two days, to be placed before the Centre to press for immediate assistance.
District Collectors put on alert
Revanth Reddy held direct discussions with the Collectors of Kamareddy, Adilabad, Rajanna Siricilla, and Komaram Bheem Asifabad, instructing them to release relief materials immediately and personally monitor ground-level operations.
Rs 10 Crore for severely hit districts
The government has decided to release Rs 10 crore each to severely affected districts and Rs 5 crore each to those with minor losses from the contingent fund to support urgent relief works.
Anger over SDRF fund neglect
Expressing displeasure, Revanth Reddy accused officials of failing to properly utilise the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). He directed departments to submit utilisation certificates promptly and ensure strict compliance with SDRF guidelines.
Reminder of pending Centre Support
Revanth Reddy questioned officials about the Centre’s inaction over last year’s floods in Khammam and Warangal, where promises of relief and rehabilitation remain unfulfilled. He sought a detailed report on pending central funds and commitments.
Delegation to meet Union Ministers
A delegation led by Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka will present two reports to Union Ministers in Delhi on September 4, one highlighting unaddressed losses from last year and another detailing the current flood devastation.
SDRF’s role in rescue operations
The chief minister commended the SDRF for rescuing 217 people in 42 flood relief operations during the heavy rains. He instructed the Director General of Fire and Disaster Response to provide advanced training and skills to SDRF personnel for future emergencies.
