Telangana forms SIT to probe circulation of morphed CM images, defamatory reports against woman IAS officer

Hyderabad: The Telangana State government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe two sensitive cases registered by the Central Crime Station (CCS).

The first case pertains to the circulation of morphed and derogatory images of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and another related to the dissemination of defamatory content targeting a woman IAS officer.

SIT constituted under Hyderabad CP

The SIT was formed under the leadership of Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, following orders issued by Telangana Director-General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy.

The eight-member team will investigate cases registered at CCS, Hyderabad, and Maddur in Narayanpet district.

Case of morphed images of Chief Minister

According to police, an individual identified as Kavali Venkatesh allegedly created obscene and morphed images of the Chief Minister and posted them in a WhatsApp group.

Acting on a complaint filed by Congress leader Gulla Narasimha, a case was registered on January 11. The SIT will examine the origin, circulation and intent behind the offensive content.

Case involving defamatory content against woman IAS officer

In a separate development, CCS registered another case over the circulation of objectionable and derogatory news targeting a woman IAS officer.

Acting on a complaint lodged by the IAS Officers’ Association, police booked two Telugu news channels and seven YouTube channels under sections 75, 78, 79, 351(1), and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Guru Raghavendra, ACP, CCS.

Shankar Reddy, Inspector, Cyber Cell.

Harish, Sub-Inspector, Cyber Cell.

Probe to cover both cases

The SIT will conduct a comprehensive investigation into both cases, focusing on the misuse of digital platforms, the role of media outlets and social media channels and violations of law.

Officials said strict action would be taken against those found responsible, in accordance with the law.
