Nominating an active BJP State President to post of Governor is also a violation of Article 171(5) Constitution of India
This isn’t the first time the governor has rejected the nomination under the governor’s quote. Earlier, the nomination of MLC Paddi Kaushik Reddy was rejected under the social service category. He is now given the party ticket for Huzurabad.
Earlier on July 29, BRS working president KT Rama Rao announced the MLC nomination for Dr Sravan Dasoju and Kurra Satyanarayana under the governor’s quota. The file was sent to the governor for approval. It is pertinent to note that earlier the Telangana governor is said to had taken additional time in approving certain bills sent by the government. This spurred the difference between the governor and chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
History of switching parties
Dasoju Sravan is currently a senior leader in the Bharat Rashtra Samithi. Earlier, he was also appointed as a member of the politburo and the official representative of the BRS party. However, he has a history of switching political parties.
In 2009, he contested on a Praja Rajyam Party ticket from the Secunderabad Lok Sabha and lost. He then left the party and joined TRS (now BRS).
Later, he left the TRS and joined the Congress on April 12, 2014, after the formation of Telangana state. After joining the Congress, he served in various capacities, including the party’s spokesperson and national general secretary.
In 2018, he contested as an MLA from Khairatabad Assembly on a Congress ticket. However, he lost. After serving in the BJP for a brief period, he joined the BRS on October 21, 2022.
Dr Sravan is yet to officially respond to the governor’s statement. However, previously in a broadcast message, he said, “Social work and politics have distinct roles and purposes, but they are not mutually exclusive. Social workers may engage in advocacy and lobbying to influence policy changes, and politicians may work to address social issues through legislation. The two fields often intersect when addressing complex social problems and striving for societal improvements.”
