Hyderabad: Telangana government declared a two-day holiday for all educational institutions on Thursday and Friday in view of the heavy rainfall forecast.

On Thursday morning, Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy issued a formal statement on Twitter. "Keeping in view of heavy rainfall in the state, and on the instructions of the CM, KCR, the Govt has decided to declare holidays for all education institutions in the state for two days - Thursday and Friday," she said.

After the announcement, many schools had to send students back home while the rest of them were still working as they were not properly informed about the holiday. Teachers in many schools were asked to remain in the school till the afternoon.

"Madam, it's total mismanagement on the part of the government; your orders for school closures have not been communicated to educational institutions, putting children in jeopardy. All of the children went to school," said a user S. M. Bilal in response to Sabitha's tweet.

Many schools begin classes by 7.30 a.m., and they reach the school by 7 a.m. MInister announced the holiday at around 8 a.m. Netizens on Twitter are lashing out as the last-minute announcement is proving to be bothersome for not only the students but parents, teachers, and school administration as well.

"By the time we got the information, the majority of the students had arrived at school. Students were told to go home, while the teachers were told to stay back and leave in the afternoon," said Bindu, a teacher at a private school in Kompally.

ā€œThis is really inconvenient for parents especially the ones that have full-time jobs and no help. I was on my way to work when I got the call from my childā€™s school and had to go pick him up. Now I will either have to work from home or take a holiday as I cannot leave my kid alone at homeā€ said Akshara Malhar, a small business owner.

A statement has been issued that the BRAOU exams and all exams under the Jurisdiction of Osmania University have been postponed in view of heavy rains in the state.

"As per the instructions from the Government and due to incessant rains all examinations are postponed in AP and Telangana. the Rescheduled dates of the examinations will be announced later" the statement read.
