Hyderabad: Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Wednesday announced that over 1 lakh houses built under the Indiramma Housing Scheme will be handed over to beneficiaries by March 31.
Another one lakh homes are set for completion by June
Replying to a query during Question Hour in the State Legislative Assembly, the minister said the government is expediting construction to meet its housing targets while ensuring transparency in beneficiary selection.
Over 2 lakh houses to be completed in phases
Srinivasa Reddy stated that around 1.12 lakh Indiramma houses across the state are nearing completion and will be ready for housewarming ceremonies by the end of March.
“Under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, another one lakh houses will be completed by June,” he said, adding that the second phase of the scheme will be launched in April.
4.50 lakh houses sanctioned in first phase
The minister revealed that in the first phase alone, 4.50 lakh houses have been sanctioned across Telangana.
In addition, 12,000 houses have been approved for the Chenchu community and other tribal groups under the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA).
'Relief for incomplete houses from previous regime'
Addressing concerns over incomplete housing projects initiated during the previous BRS government, Srinivasa Reddy said the current government is considering financial support to complete those houses.
However, he clarified that a final decision on this will be taken by the State Cabinet.
New committees for selecting beneficiaries
To streamline the selection process, the minister announced that village-level Indiramma Housing Committees will be formed, with Sarpanches serving as chairpersons.
These committees will identify eligible beneficiaries, after which proposals will be reviewed by District Collectors and approved by the respective district-in-charge ministers.
The government is also considering including MLAs in these committees in the future.
Up to 15 locations identified for urban poor housing
Srinivasa Reddy said that within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, up to 15 locations have already been identified for housing construction.
Houses will be allotted to the urban poor in these areas, and a similar model will be replicated in other major towns across the state.
Rs 22,500 crore outlay for massive housing push
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said the government is expected to spend around Rs 22,500 crore for constructing 4.50 lakh houses, averaging about 3,500 houses per constituency.
He dismissed opposition claims that budget allocations for the scheme were reduced, asserting that the government remains committed to providing housing for every eligible poor family.
Transparent process, says govt
Vikramarka emphasised that the government conducted constituency-wise meetings and accepted applications through a transparent process to ensure fair allocation of houses.
He reiterated that the Congress government’s goal is to ensure that every deserving beneficiary receives a house under the scheme.
