Hyderabad: The notification for the Telangana municipal elections was issued on Tuesday, setting the stage for a single-phase poll across the State.

State Election Commissioner Rani Kumudini announced the election schedule for 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations, bringing the Model Code of Conduct into immediate effect.

According to the notification, polling will be held on February 11, while counting of votes will take place on February 13.

The entire election process will be completed with the election of chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, mayors and deputy mayors on February 16.

Single-phase poll across the state

The State Election Commission has decided to conduct the municipal elections in a single phase across Telangana. As many as 52.43 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in these elections.

A total of 2,996 wards will go to the polls, for which 8,203 polling stations have been set up. For vote counting, 136 counting centres have been arranged across the State.

Nomination schedule

The process of filing nominations will begin on January 28 and will continue till January 30. Scrutiny of nominations is scheduled for January 31, while candidates can withdraw their nominations up to February 3.

If required, re-polling will be conducted on February 12 at select locations.

Model Code of Conduct in force

With the issuance of the election notification, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force across Telangana. Election officials warned that strict action will be taken against anyone violating the code.

Police have intensified checks and inspections at various locations as part of election-related security measures.
