Telangana SEC announces local body poll schedule; MPTC, ZPTC elections in 2 phases on Oct 23, Oct 27
Hyderabad: Telangana State Election Commission (SEC) has announced the schedule and reservation details for MPTC, ZPTC, and Gram Panchayat polls.
State Election Commissioner (SEC) Rani Kumudini on Monday confirmed that the elections will be conducted in five phases, starting with MPTC and ZPTC polls.
Election Notification and Nominations
The official notification will be issued on October 9, and nominations will be accepted from the same date.
MPTC and ZPTC Elections: First phase on October 23 and second phase on October 27.
Gram Panchayat Elections: First phase on October 31, second on November 4, and third on November 8.
Panchayat election results will be declared on the same day of polling, while MPTC and ZPTC results will be announced on November 11.
Reservation details finalized
On September 27, the Panchayati Raj Department finalized reservations for ZPTC chairperson positions under SC, ST, BC, and women categories and issued the official gazette.
Reservations for wards, Gram Panchayats, MPTCs, ZPTCs, and Mandal Parishad President posts across all districts were confirmed and forwarded to the SEC.
Rani Kumudini also reviewed the reservations and election readiness with senior officials to ensure smooth conduct.
Legal Clearance and Compliance
Officials confirmed there are no legal obstacles, as the State High Court has not issued any stay orders on elections.
Discussions with legal experts and references to precedents in other states were conducted to ensure compliance with all regulations.
Addressing Complaints and Revisions
Several districts raised complaints about inaccuracies in reservation allocations, including population-based issues and other discrepancies.
Senior Panchayati Raj officials instructed district collectors to reassess and finalize reservations. By Sunday night, most districts submitted revised details to the SEC, ensuring all reservations are accurate ahead of polling.
