Hyderabad: Telangana government has asked all vehicle owners to install High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) by September 30, 2025
According to an order issued by the Transport Department on Wednesday, vehicles registered in the state before April 1, 2019, must have high-security registration plates (HSRP) installed by September 30, 2025.
The action complies with the Supreme Court's directives, and vehicle owners are instructed to schedule HSRP fittings for their vehicles via the www.siam.in website in accordance with the G.O.
Failure to abide by the order will result in action under the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 and regulations designed to file complaints against vehicles detected operating without the required HSRP.
Fake plates to be replaced with HSRP
The GO also stated that fake plates, including those with unofficially certified holograms or 'IND' insignia, will be declared invalid and must be replaced. Insurance companies have been advised to guarantee that vehicle insurance is not granted or renewed without affixing an HSRP number plate to the vehicle.
Similar directives were given to all the pollution testing centers. The traffic police have been directed not to allow vehicles to operate on the roads without a proper HSRP after September 30, and to file complaints against vehicles without an HSRP.
"It is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to get the vehicle fitted with HSRP and hologram-based color stickers," the GO said.
Process to fit HSRP on vehicles
Vehicle owners must click to visit the website of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) "book HSRP", enter the vehicle ownerās details, select the vehicle manufacturer, after which they will be redirected to the respective Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) authorised HSRP vendorās applications for processing of the order.
The vehicle owner will be required to provide vehicle details such as the vehicle's registration number, chassis number, and so on to the OEM (vehicle manufacturers/dealers) authorized HSRP vendor's application, which will be validated using the transport department's Application Programming Interface (API).
The vehicle owner must book for HSRP installation and make payment through the authorized online site www.Siam.in. Following successful validation by the transport department, the vehicle information will be validated, and the HSRP order will be executed by the vehicle dealer. The transport department will be updated with the unique laser number of the HSRP plate after it has been installed by the corresponding dealer, the GO said.
Prices for HSRPs vary by vehicle
As per the GO, prices for HSRPs vary by vehicle type, with two-wheelers anticipated to pay between Rs 320 and Rs 380 and four-wheelers between Rs 590 and Rs 700. The state government has directed dealers and manufacturers to guarantee a seamless and transparent implementation. Vehicle owners are advised to act quickly to avoid last-minute rushes and penalties.
The GO further stated that OEMs and showrooms must prominently display official pricing, and service technicians must send fitting information, including images, to the HSRP portal. The technology will also provide real-time SMS notifications to the vehicle owner on the status of their order and fitment.
