Hyderabad: Telangana is bracing up for another heatwave following the retreat of monsoon.

According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), high temperatures are expected to dominate the region, and not just in the afternoon. Nights too will offer little respite from the heat.

Day and Night: Hot and Humid

The TSDPS weather forecast paints a picture of ten days filled with scorching daytime temperatures, with maximums ranging from 39 to 44 degree Celsius.

Even during the night, the mercury will barely dip below 26 to 29 degree C.

Hyderabad is no exception, with expected maximum temperatures of 37 to 40 degrees Celsius for the next three days

The Impact on Health

This sudden spike in temperatures can take a toll on one's health. Prolonged exposure to heat can lead to heat-related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion or heatstroke.

Doctors stress the importance of staying hydrated, wearing light and loose-fitting clothing, and avoiding excessive sun exposure during peak hours.

Dr. Priya Sharma, General Physician at Apollo Healthcare says “To maintain your health during a heatwave, drink plenty of water throughout the day, avoid caffeine and alcohol, and take cool showers to regulate your body temperature."

Dr. Rajesh Gupta, Pediatrician at Rainbow Children’s Hospital said “Parents should be particularly vigilant with young children during hot weather. Make sure they drink enough fluids and dress them in light, breathable fabrics."

Dr. Meena Joshi, a Sleep Specialist based in Hyderabad said: “A good night's sleep during a heatwave can be challenging. Keep your bedroom cool by using fans or air conditioning, and consider taking a cool shower before bedtime to lower your body temperature."

Longing for Cooler Days

As the heatwave takes hold, many residents are eagerly awaiting the return of cooler weather. The sudden temperature change can be uncomfortable and impact people's daily routines. It's a time when people look forward to the arrival of cooler evenings and the respite they offer.
