Telangana to provide free electricity to Ganesh, Durga pandals during Navaratri
Hyderabad: Telangana government has decided to provide free electricity supply to Ganesh and Durga pandals during the upcoming Navaratri festivals.
The initiative is aimed at supporting community celebrations. The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGSPDCL) has issued orders extending the benefit to all authorized organisers.
Free power for festivals
According to TGSPDCL, Ganesh Navaratri will be celebrated from August 27 to September 6, while Durga Navaratri will be observed from September 29 to October 12. Free power will be provided for illumination at pandals set up with prior approval from the electricity department.
Police guidelines for organisers
The Telangana police have released a detailed advisory for pandal organisers to ensure smooth and safe celebrations.
Organisers must apply online through the Telangana Police portal for permission.
Expert services should be engaged for erecting mandaps.
Ganesh pandals must not block roads completely.
Ban on DJs; microphones cannot be used after 10 pm.
Sound levels must strictly adhere to government rules.
CCTV cameras are mandatory at pandals.
Fire safety measures must be followed.
Security coordination meeting
To streamline arrangements for Ganesh idol immersions, Sneha Mehra, DCP (South Zone), convened a meeting with Utsav organisers. She listened to their concerns and assured them that police officials, including ACPs and SHOs, would extend full cooperation.
She stressed that strict security protocols will be in place during the festivities, with particular focus on processions. She also warned organisers against allowing DJs and fireworks, reiterating the need for discipline.
Call for peaceful celebrations
Appealing to devotees, DCP Sneha Mehra urged the public to celebrate the festival peacefully and grandly. She advised organisers to start immersion processions early to avoid delays and cautioned devotees against taking the law into their own hands in the event of provocation.
