Hyderabad: Telangana is set to experience changing weather patterns in early April, with rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds expected in several districts.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), while the month will begin with dry weather, isolated showers will start on April 1, followed by widespread rainfall and thunderstorms between April 2 and 4. Some areas may also witness hailstorms and strong winds.

Dry start, wet days ahead

The IMD has predicted that March 31 will remain dry across Telangana, with no significant temperature changes. However, a gradual drop in maximum temperatures by 2-4°C is expected over the next four days.

“While the weather will remain dry on the last day of March, we expect thunderstorms and rainfall to begin from April 1. The intensity will increase over the next few days, with many areas likely to experience moderate showers and gusty winds,” said KS Sridhar, a meteorologist, speaking to NewsMeter.

A cyclonic circulation over Marathwada and a trough extending from south Chhattisgarh to Madhya Maharashtra are contributing to the changing weather conditions. A north-south trough from Marathwada to north Tamil Nadu is also influencing the system.

Weather warnings issued

The IMD has issued alerts for various districts from April 1-4:

• April 1: Isolated thunderstorms with lightning and winds (40-50 kmph) are likely in Nizamabad, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy and Mahabubnagar. A yellow alert has been issued.

• April 2: The intensity of rainfall will increase, with an orange alert for hailstorms, strong winds (40-50 kmph) and lightning in Vikarabad, Mahabubnagar, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal.

• April 3: Another orange alert has been issued for hailstorms and strong winds in Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal. A yellow alert has been placed for thunderstorms in Hyderabad, Nalgonda, Warangal and Siddipet.

• April 4: Thunderstorms and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are expected in Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal under a yellow alert.

Farmers and residents have been advised to take the necessary precautions, as strong winds and lightning could cause localised damage.

Hyderabad’s weather ahead

The State capital will experience generally cloudy skies with hazy conditions in the mornings over the next two days. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 37°C on March 31 and may drop to 36°C by April 1. Winds will be light, blowing from the southeast at 4-8 kmph.

“We are advising people to be cautious, especially during thunderstorms. Farmers should stay updated on weather forecasts before making agricultural decisions,” added Sridhar.

With thunderstorms and rainfall expected across Telangana in the first week of April, authorities have urged residents to stay informed about weather updates. The IMD will continue monitoring the system and issue necessary warnings as the situation develops.
