Telangana winter session: KCR makes brief appearance, CM Revanth enquires about his health
Hyderabad: The winter session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly kicked off on Monday. Opposition leader and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) made a brief appearance in the House.
BRS supremo has attended the Assembly only twice, his last appearance being during the Budget Session in 2025.
House pays tribute to former MLAs
The opening day of the session began on a solemn note, with the Assembly adopting condolence resolutions in memory of late MLAs Ram Reddy, Damodar Reddy, and Konda Laxma Reddy. Members observed silence as a mark of respect before the House took up routine business.

CM Revanth Reddy calls on KCR
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy walked up to KCR inside the Assembly Hall and greeted him warmly. The Chief Minister enquired about the former CM’s health, to which KCR replied that he was doing well. The exchange was followed by courtesy calls from several ministers and legislators cutting across party lines.
KCR leaves soon after session begins
KCR reached the Assembly earlier in the day from his Nandinagar residence and was accorded a warm welcome by BRS MLAs, who escorted him into the House. He took his seat even before most members arrived.
However, soon after the condolence references concluded, within minutes of the formal commencement of the session, KCR exited the House along with former minister Harish Rao and returned to his residence.
Ministers, legislators exchange pleasantries
Besides the Chief Minister, senior ministers including Uttam Kumar Reddy, Sridhar Babu, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Seethakka, Vakiti Srihari, and Adluri Laxman Kumar, along with ruling party whips and legislators from Congress and CPI, met KCR and exchanged greetings in the Assembly.
TG Congress reacts
Telangana Congress media and communications chairman Sama Ram Mohan Reddy said, "Democracy has won today. The demand of the Congress party was that KCR must come to the Assembly. He has come, attended the condolence meet and left. We will wait and watch whether he will attend the debates."
Legislative business on the Agenda
The session is expected to focus on providing statutory backing to several key policy decisions, including:
Merger of municipalities within the Outer Ring Road limits into the GHMC.
Expansion of GHMC limits and an increase in the number of wards from 150 to 300.
Removal of the two-child norm for local body elections.
Amendments to the Telangana GST law.
Rationalisation of government employees.
BAC meets to finalise session schedule
Following the adjournment of the House on the first day, a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) is scheduled to decide the duration and detailed programme of the Assembly and Legislative Council sessions.
