Hyderabad: The Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana (TGNPDCL) has recorded its highest-ever peak power demand of 6,057 MW on Saturday, surpassing the previous record of 5,816 MW registered on March 11 last year, CMD Karnati Varun Reddy announced.
The achievement came under the leadership and oversight of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and Energy Special Chief Secretary Naveen Mittal.
Notably, the new peak was recorded in February itself, ahead of the peak summer months.
Infrastructure strengthened to meet rising demand
The CMD said the discom had undertaken advance planning and swift measures to ensure uninterrupted power supply despite the sharp rise in demand.
As part of infrastructure augmentation:
35 new 33/11 kV substations have been commissioned.
366 additional power transformers have been installed.
Capacity enhancement of 7,600 transformers has been completed.
Eight overloaded 33 kV feeders have been bifurcated.
1,200 km of 33 kV alternate lines have been laid.
392 capacitor banks have been installed to address low voltage issues.
These measures, he said, have significantly strengthened the distribution network.
Special Summer action plan in place
With summer approaching, NPDCL has rolled out a special action plan to manage the anticipated surge in power consumption during March, April and May.
Maintenance of transformers, close monitoring of lines, rectification of loose connections, and stocking of essential materials are being carried out on a priority basis.
Emergency response teams have been kept ready in every division, and a dedicated monitoring mechanism has been implemented for swift grievance redressal.
Assures uninterrupted, quality supply
Karnati Varun Reddy reiterated that the primary objective of the discom is to provide quality and uninterrupted power supply to consumers under the state government’s guidance.
He expressed confidence that, even if demand rises further in the coming months, the department is fully prepared to meet the challenge without any disruption in supply.
