Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh NRI Empowerment and Relations Minister Kondapalli Srinivas on Monday said the State government has initiated urgent measures to ensure the safe return of Telugu citizens stranded in Gulf countries amid escalating tensions following the ongoing conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran.
Stating that the situation in parts of the Gulf has become tense due to the unfolding war, the Minister said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is personally monitoring developments and coordinating efforts to safeguard Telugu expatriates.
Many Indians are working in the Middle East
Srinivas said the State government is closely tracking the evolving situation after the February 28 joint attack by the US and Israel on Iran, which has triggered an indefinite conflict impacting several neighbouring Arab nations. With millions of Indians, including a significant number of Telugus, residing in the region for employment, authorities are prioritising their safety.
“As Telugu people are facing hardships at certain airports and transit points, the government is taking all necessary steps to bring them back safely to Andhra Pradesh,” he said in an official release.
Helplines activated for assistance
The Minister urged Telugu expatriates in Gulf countries to make use of the dedicated helplines launched for assistance. He said the Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) coordinators in the region have been alerted to extend immediate support to those in distress.
Efforts are underway to arrange temporary accommodation, ensure security and facilitate support through local Telugu community networks wherever required, he added.
Coordination with embassies
Srinivas said APNRTS officials are in constant touch with their Gulf coordinators and are closely monitoring ground-level developments. He appealed to Telugu NRIs to remain in contact with Indian Embassies and Consulates in their respective countries for official guidance and updates.
Avoid rumours, rely on official sources
The Minister cautioned the community against believing or circulating unverified information on social media. He advised them to rely only on official advisories issued by the State government and Indian diplomatic missions.
Reassuring families back home, Srinivas said the State government remains committed to the safety and welfare of every Telugu citizen abroad and will extend all possible assistance during the crisis.
