Hyderabad: Tension prevailed in Khammam after a BJP worker died by suicide following alleged harassment from Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS) leaders and the police. BJP leaders staged a protest in Khammam demanding action against those responsible for Sai Ganesh's death.
Sai Ganesh, the district convenor of Bharatiya Mazdoor Union, died on Saturday morning in a hospital in Hyderabad. After his death, local and state BJP leaders visited Khammam and alleged that it was a government-sponsored death.
BJP Telangana president Bandi Sanjay alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and state transport minister Puvvada Ajay were responsible for Ganesh's death. He said the young leader had done nothing wrong and only pointed out the irregularities of the local minister and the government corruption. As a result, 16 false cases were filed against him for exposing the TRS government's irregularities, added Bandi Sanjay.
BJP leaders also accused the police of harassing and filing illegal cases against Ganesh which led to his death. However, Vishnu Warrier, the Khammam SP, denied all allegations and said a total of nine cases have been filed against Ganesh and all of them, he said, were backed by evidence. He did not comment on the alleged involvement of TRS leaders, especially minister Puvvada Ajay.
Meanwhile, the Khammam police have deployed cops in front of the minister's residence and the TRS office.
On 14 April, Ganesh attempted to end his life by consuming pesticide and came to the police station. When the police came to know about it, they admitted him to a government hospital and later to a private hospital in Khammam. Later, he was shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad for better treatment, the SP said.
