Yanam: Yanam: Have you watched 'Hachiko', a movie -about a dog who waited for the return of its owner not knowing he has died?

A real-life 'Hachiko' was witnessed in Yanam district where a dog waited all night for his owner not knowing that she died by suicide.

A painful scene was witnessed after a 23-year-old woman jumped into the Godavari at Yanam-Yedurlanka bridge on July 16. Her pet dog kept waiting all night guarding her owner's footwear. The scene reminded many people of 'Hachiko'.

Yanam SI S Nooka Raju said on Sunday evening, the woman had a fight with her mother and went along with her pet dog towards the Ferry road. She then called her mother and said she is ending her life and going to her father. She immediately jumped from the bridge.

The 23-year-old woman lost her father a year ago. Studied till class X, she and her mother run a food cart in Yanam. Police said the family has been battling a financial crisis.

Being a ferry point and Sunday, there were many tourists and locals at the spot. They immediately informed the police.

"Had it been salt water, we could have traced the body immediately. But that particular day there was a high rise of Godavari flood water. Despite a search operation, we couldn't find the body for two days. We recovered the body on Tuesday morning near Kankalapeta at Pushkar Ghat," said SI Nooka Raju.

Dog waited all night

While the police were on searching for her body, the pet dog, which was bought by the woman just a month ago, waited all night for her return. The dog was seen barking for a very long time. Even he slept near her footwear.

"When the locals tried to go near the dog, he barked at them. Perhaps he was waiting for the owner's return. At midnight, the woman's brother, who works in Kakinada, came and forcibly took the dog home," said the SI.

Police said the reasons for her death are yet to be ascertained. A case has been registered.
