Tirupati on high alert: Police conduct bomb sweeps after terror threat
Tirupati: A bomb threat received via email prompted extensive security operations across Tirupati, Tirumala, and Srikalahasti on Friday.
The mail, sent by unidentified individuals, warned of RDX explosions at multiple locations, specifically mentioning Tirupati and the hill shrine Tirumala.
Police launched sweeping inspections
Bomb squads carried out thorough inspections at key locations in Tirupati, including the bus station, railway station vicinity, Srinivasam, Vishunivasam, Kapila Theertham and Govindarajula Swamy temple.
At Tirumala, checks were conducted at Vaikunta Queue Complexes 1 and 2, while Padmavati temple in Tiruchanur was also inspected. Similar security measures were implemented at the Shiva temple in Srikalahasti.
Special units deployed for safety
Sniffer dogs were deployed to detect explosives, while bomb defusing teams were stationed at critical sites. Security was heightened at temples, courts and residences of judges following the threat.
Preparations for CM Naidu’s visit
Ahead of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s scheduled visit to Tirupati on October 6, a helipad at the Agriculture College was thoroughly checked by bomb squads to ensure complete safety.
Devotees’ darshan remains uninterrupted
Despite the heavy turnout of devotees at Tirumala and Padmavati temple, police conducted meticulous checks at every entry and exit point, ensuring uninterrupted darshan of Lord Venkateswara.
No Explosives Found; Investigation underway
Police confirmed that no explosives were found at any location, bringing relief to devotees and authorities. Cyber and intelligence units have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the threat email. Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects immediately.
