Tirupati: Student leaders going to protest high fees at Mohan Babu University abducted, rescued in an hour

Tirupati: Student leaders heading to stage a protest against alleged exorbitant fees at educational institutions run by actor Mohan Babu were allegedly abducted on Tuesday, triggering swift police action that led to their rescue within an hour.

Student leaders allegedly abducted ahead of protest

According to student organisations, leaders were on their way to the Collectorate in Tirupati to hold a dharna over what they described as ‘excessive fee collection’ when the incident occurred.

The abducted persons were identified as SFI district secretary Akbar and another student leader, Naveen. Alarmed by their sudden disappearance, fellow student leaders lodged a complaint at the Tiruchanur Police Station, alleging kidnapping.

Police swing into action

The matter was immediately brought to the notice of District Superintendent of Police Subbarayudu, who ordered urgent action. Under the supervision of Additional SP Ravi Manoharachari, special teams were constituted to trace the abducted students.

Rescue operation near Naravaripalli

Acting on inputs, the police teams intercepted the suspects’ vehicle near Bhimavaram, close to Naravaripalli. The abducted student leaders were rescued safely and brought to the Tiruchanur Police Station for further proceedings.

Accused arrested working as ‘bouncers at Mohan Babu’s University’

Police arrested the accused involved in the abduction and seized the vehicles used in the crime. Investigations revealed that those taken into custody were allegedly working as bouncers at Mohan Babu’s college, officials said.

Strong warning from police

The Tirupati SP stated that criminal cases have been registered not only against those who carried out the kidnapping but also against anyone who abetted the act. A thorough investigation is underway, and strict legal action will follow.

He also issued a stern warning, stating that no individual or group would be spared for taking the law into their own hands, irrespective of their influence or background.
