Chief Secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad issued a formal order in this regard.
A 1998-batch IPS officer, Laddha replaced the incumbent and 1994-batch IPS officer Kumar Vishwajeet. In April, the Election Commission of India (ECI) appointed Kumar Vishwajeet as the new Intelligence chief of the state.
He replaced senior IPS officer PSR Anjaneyulu. The ECI sacked Anjaneyulu from his post following the intelligence failure in preventing the stone pelting on then chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on April 13 in Vijayawada.
In 2020, the YSRCP government placed the services of Laddha at the disposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for appointment to the post of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) IG on deputation for five years from the date of joining the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Soon after the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu assumed the charge as Chief Minister, the government wrote a letter to the MHA seeking the repatriation of Inspector General of Police (IG) rank officer Mahesh Chandra Laddha to his parent cadre Andhra Pradesh with immediate effect.
The MHA responded immediately and issued the relieving order. On June 26, the MHA repatriated Mahesh Chandra Laddha to his parent cadre AP immediately and instructed the 1998-batch IPS officer to intimate the date of relieving him from the CRPF.
Laddha received recognition for his skillful law enforcement and ability to combat radical Left-wing thinking within the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. In 2012, Laddha was deputed to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He was the second SP rank officer from the AP cadre deputed to the NIA.
From 2018 to 2019, Laddha headed Visakhapatnam City's police department. Before he was appointed the chief of police in the port city, he also worked in the intelligence division and Greyhounds and also SP of various districts including Guntur.
