TRS files corruption charges against Komatireddy, asks EC to debar him from Munugode by-poll

Hyderabad: TRS general secretary Soma Bharath Kumar on Sunday filed a complaint against BJP's Munugode by-poll candidate Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy to the Telangana Chief Election Officer Vikas Raj for allegedly joining BJP in return for Rs. 18,000 crores worth of contracts that Reddy's company received from the Centre.

In the complaint, the TRS alleged that Mr. Reddy was working for the BJP for the last three years when he was a Congress MLA. After his family-held company was awarded Rs. 18,000 crores worth contract by the Central government led by the BJP party, he joined the BJP after resigning from the Congress party, alleged TRS.

"The voluntary statements given by Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy are nothing but admissions of a serious, illegal offence involving criminal quid pro quo. His actions were not only immoral in terms of the code of conduct for political leaders and activities but also amounted to a criminal offence under the Indian Penal Code and under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further, he also committed offences under the Representation of People Act and breached the oath taken by him as a legislator in 2018," read the complaint by TRS party.

Further, the party demanded the Election Commission order a criminal investigation. They also urged the commission to initiate proceedings to debar Komatireddy from the Munugode by-elections.

Background

Komatireddy, while speaking to a Telugu channel, said his company had received Rs. 18,000 crores worth contract from the Centre. But he also added that joining the BJP has nothing to do with it. He said that contracts worth Rs. 18,000 crores came in recently, around six months ago, but that he had been talking about joining BJP for three years.

Responding to this, TRS working president K.T Rama Rao said Komatireddy joined BJP in return for the Rs. 18,000 crore contracts given by the Centre to his company. "Quid pro Quo-open confession of the BJP MLA candidate from Munugode. His company gets a massive Rs. 18,000 crore contract from and in return, he joins BJP," KTR tweeted.
