The 47th US president described January 20 as the "liberation day" and declared that "America's decline is over" as changes will come "very quickly".
He signed a series of executive actions, which included revoking 78 of Joe Biden’s policies, hours after officially becoming the 47th president of the United States.
What are the announcements made?
1. The new US president listed a series of actions he would roll out immediately including declaring a national emergency at the US-Mexico border, renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, and that the US would take back the Panama Canal.
2. Trump declared a National emergency at the southern border and vowed that all illegal entry would be halted and that millions of "criminal aliens" would be deported. He also signed an order declaring Mexican drug cartels terrorist organizations.
3. Trump vows to increase domestic oil production with the slogan "We will drill, baby, drill," and to end the Green New Deal.
4. He proposed implementing tariffs to protect American workers and revitalize manufacturing, aiming to boost the domestic economy.
5. Trump announced the creation of a Department of Government Efficiency to reform and streamline federal operations, which will be headed by Elon Musk.
6. Trump said that the government would recognize only two genders, male and female, and pledged to end federal mandates on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
7. Trump expressed intentions to send American astronauts to Mars, signaling a renewed commitment to space exploration.
8. He criticized the previous administration's use of the justice system, describing it as "weaponized," and vowed to end such practices.
9. Trump highlighted the possibility of reclaiming the Panama Canal and renaming the Gulf of Mexico, indicating a more assertive foreign policy stance.
10. He assured to reinstate service members expelled for refusing COVID-19 vaccinations, with full back pay, and to stop "radical political theories and social experiments" in the military.
11. Trump signed an executive order halting the TikTok ban for 75 days “to permit my Administration an opportunity to determine the appropriate course of action concerning TikTok”—after previously suggesting ByteDance shift the platform to a joint venture at least 50% controlled by U.S. interests.
