New Delhi: The 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, brokered peace between India and Pakistan, facilitating a ceasefire between the two nations.
In a tweet, Donald J. Trump said, āAfter a full night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire.ā
The tweet quickly went viral on Twitter.
On Truth Social, Donald J. Trump added, āI am very proud of the strong and unwaveringly powerful leadership of India and Pakistan for having the strength, wisdom, and fortitude to fully know and understand that it was time to stop the current aggression that could have led to the death and destruction of so many, and so much. Millions of good and innocent people could have died! Your legacy is greatly enhanced by your brave actions. I am proud that the USA was able to help you arrive at this historic and heroic decision. While not even discussed, I am going to increase trade, substantially, with both of these great nations. Additionally, I will work with you both to see if, after a āthousand years,ā a solution can be arrived at concerning Kashmir. God bless the leadership of India and Pakistan on a job well done!!!ā
India Meeting
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting on Sunday morning in New Delhi with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the chiefs of all three services.
No official statement has been issued by the Prime Ministerās Office following the ceasefire announcement by U.S. President Donald J. Trump.
Indian Air Force and Operation Sindoor
In a tweet on Sunday afternoon, the Indian Air Force (IAF) stated that it had āsuccessfully executed its assigned tasks in Operation Sindoor, with precision and professionalism. Operations were conducted in a deliberate and discreet manner, aligned with national objectives.ā
The IAF further added that, since operations are still ongoing, a detailed briefing will be provided in due course. The IAF urged the public to refrain from speculation and the dissemination of unverified information.
Indira Gandhi Remembered
Congress General Secretary K. C. Venugopal tweeted, āBeing a developing country, we have our backbone straight, and enough will and resources to fight all atrocities. Times have passed when any nation sitting 3,000 to 4,000 miles away could give orders to Indians. India terribly misses Indira Gandhiji today.ā
In addition to Congress handles on Twitter, many analysts and veterans remembered Indira Gandhi and her speeches. Twitter was flooded with old videos of Indira Gandhi addressing soldiers.
Pakistan Opens Its Airspace
Following the ceasefire announcement, Pakistan reopened its airspace for internal travel. The airports in Islamabad and Lahore became operational from midnight on May 10.
