Hyderabad: Considering the heavy rainfall across the state, the Telangana government on Wednesday extended the holidays for all educational institutions in the state till 16 July, Saturday.
Earlier, on Sunday, the government had declared holidays for all educational institutions from 11 July to 13 July. On Wednesday, the government decided to extend this till Saturday. All the educational institutions will resume on 18 July, Monday, read the government order.
Meanwhile, several places in the state received extremely heavy rainfall. According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Jainoor in Komaram Bheem Asifabad received the state's highest rainfall of 391 mm in the last 24 hours. In Hyderabad, Ameerpet received the city's highest rainfall of 34 mm.
On July 13, the IMD Hyderabad has issued a red alert in Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Warangal Rural, Warangal Urban, and Jangaon. In Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Siddipet, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy, an orange alert has been issued.
On 14 and 15 July, there is an orange alert and yellow alert in some districts of the state.
In Nirmal, thousands of people from 12 villages have been evacuated in Nirmal district after water inflow into Kadem Dam increased to five lakh cusecs. Of the 18 gates, only 17 have been opened. The water level has crossed 700 feet mark.
