Hyderabad: The Telangana state government is spending Rs. 100 crore on 12,000 dialysis patients in 43 government hospitals in the state, health minister T. Harish Rao said here on Saturday.
Addressing a gathering at Jewel Gardens here, the minister said 150 kidney transplants are done each year free of cost per in government hospitals in Telangana. "There were three dialysis centres before Telangana was formed. After we came into power, we took the number to 43," he added.
He was the chief guest at a function organized by Bhagwan Mahavir Jain Relief Foundation Trust (BMJRFT) to mark their achievement of one million dialysis. Mr. Rao congratulated the trust and promised to resolve all the outstanding issues. He assured them that a meeting would be scheduled within a week between the trust representatives and government officials.
Earlier, Mr. Parekh had requested the minister to look into their outstanding issues such as reviving the rates of Aarogyashree, speeding up the process of releasing payments to the trust, and other issues. The minister said he would take up the matter with the Chief Minister about the request made for land to set up a hospital and said all other issues would be resolved through a meeting to be scheduled in a week.
Stating that water is one of the reasons because of which people become diabetic, the minister said this issue was addressed and resolved by the government through Mission Bageerath. "Money may come and go but service will remain," Mr. Rao concluded his address.
