Hyderabad: A Muslim fruit vendor in Karimnagar was asked to remove a board that read 'Happy Maha Shivratri' from his cart by a BJP activist on Monday night. A recording of the conversation between the BJP activist and the vendor went viral on social media.
Karimnagar CP V. Satyanarayana said the issue has been resolved. "We spoke to the activist and explained not to cause such communal issues again," he said.
The CP also said that an FIR will be filed against the BJP activist under relevant sections.
Syed Aslam, a resident of Nizamabad, has been selling fruits in Karimnagar for the last five years. "Isi baat par yahaan ek se ted khante se baat ko rahi hai ki main ek Musalmaan hoon, ki mein kurta, paijama pehna, mujhe hak nahi ki Happy Shivrathri kisi Hindu bhai ko wish kare. Yeh baat tumhare ko maloom, humare ko maloom ki hum ek secular country mein rehte hain, par kuch bevkoofon ko abhi bhi nahi samjhe ki Hindu Muslim, Hindu Muslim karne se kuch haasil hone waala nahi hai (There have been talks that I am a Muslim man, that I wear kurta-pyjama, and have no right to wish the Hindus a 'Happy Shivratri'. You know that we are a secular country but there are some fools who don't understand that there is no use crying out 'Hindu-Muslim, Hindu-Muslim')," said Aslam.
In fact, he said, people should be happy that a Muslim man is wishing his Hindu brothers and sisters. He further said, "Mein ek Musalman hoon. Maine Shivrathri ko ek flex lagaaya. Isse kisi Hindu ko apathi hona, ye mein pehli baar dekhthi hoon. Mein Musalmnaan hoon jab mein wish karte to use khushi hona hai balki use takleef ho raha hai ki ek Musalmaan use wish kartha hain. (I am a Muslim and I put up a flex board wishing people on Shivratri. Instead of being happy about it, some people have created trouble)."
