Lorry crashes into children’s park on Vizag beach road; site marked ‘black spot
Visakhapatnam: It was a close call for many beachgoers on Tuesday. A heavy-duty lorry lost control over its brakes on the inclined road opposite Hotel Novotel, rammed the parapet wall of Vizag beach road and crashed into the children’s park on the other side.
No casualties were recorded. The lorry driver and a pedestrian sustained minor injuries. After analysing the incident with footage caught on CCTV cameras, the Vizag police booked a case.
The accident spot has been identified as a ‘black spot’, a place with a higher risk of accidents.
The incident happened around 6:50 am. Upon receiving information about the incident, MR Peta police reached the spot and inspected it. The two injured were shifted to King George Hospital (KGH) for treatment.
Reacting to the incident, Vizag City police commissioner Shanka Brata Bagchi said, “We have identified the accident spot as a black spot. Steps will be taken to prevent accidents in future, especially on the beach road.” The injured person was identified as T Venkata Ravi Kumar, a resident of Relli Veedhi, Sabari Nagar. His health is stable, he added.
After learning about the lorry accident, Visakhapatnam South MLA Vamsi Krishna rushed to the spot and inquired with the officials about the reason for the accident. He asked the officials to ensure that such incidents do not happen again. Later, the MLA visited the KGH and extended financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to Ravi Kumar’s family members.
